Privacy policy
Last updated 16 October 2026
This policy explains what information we collect when you visit misoboard.io, join our mailing list or reserve VIP status, what we do with it, and your rights. We collect as little as we can: the site uses no cookies and no analytics, and our emails contain no tracking.
Who we are
Miso is made by KEYCHAD LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15876653), with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal information described here. For anything to do with your information, email hex@misoboard.io.
What we collect, and why
When you join the mailing list
- Your email address, and when you signed up, confirmed and (if you do) unsubscribed. We use it to send you news about Miso and its Kickstarter campaign, which you ask for by signing up and confirming. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
- How you found us: the campaign tags on the link you followed (for example that it came from one of our YouTube videos), the website that sent you, if your browser tells us, and any click identifier an advertising platform added to the link. We use these only to count which of our channels bring people in, so we know where to spend our effort. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding what works. We do not send this information, or your email address, to advertising platforms.
When you reserve VIP status
- Your deposit: its amount, whether it has been paid or refunded, and when, plus how many Misos you told us you expect to buy. We use these to honour your reservation at launch and to plan production. Our legal basis is our contract with you, and our legal obligation to keep accounting records.
- Your payment is handled by Stripe on its own checkout page. We pass Stripe your email address; your card details go directly to Stripe, and we never see or store them.
- Your Discord user ID, if you link your Discord account to get your VIP role. Discord tells us only your account's ID and public profile; we keep just the ID, so we can give you the role, add you to the official Miso Discord server if you aren't already in it, and take the role away if your deposit is refunded. We never post or read messages as you. Our legal basis is our contract with you, since the role is part of what your deposit gets you.
When you use the site
- Your IP address, held briefly when you submit a form so we can limit repeated attempts and stop abuse of the sign-up form. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. It is deleted within a day.
- Technical logs of errors on our server, which can include IP addresses. They are kept only for diagnosing problems and are overwritten automatically after a short time.
Emails we send
After you sign up we send one email asking you to confirm, and nothing else until you do. Once confirmed, you will receive a welcome email, updates about Miso and the Kickstarter launch, and, if you reserve VIP status, confirmation of your reservation. Every email has an unsubscribe link, which works with one click. Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no tracked links.
If you unsubscribe after reserving VIP status, we stop everything except one email: the link to your VIP reward when the campaign launches, because that is part of what you paid for.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising scripts, and our fonts are served from our own server. Stripe's checkout page, which you visit only to pay a VIP deposit, is run by Stripe and uses its own cookies, to process the payment and prevent fraud.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We use these service providers to run the site:
- DigitalOcean hosts our website and database, in the United States.
- Resend delivers our emails, from the United States.
- Stripe processes VIP deposits and refunds. Stripe is also responsible for its own use of payment information, for example to prevent fraud and meet financial regulations; see Stripe's privacy policy.
- Discord, if you link your account, to give you your VIP role in our server. What you do on Discord is covered by Discord's privacy policy.
They may only use your information to provide their services to us. We do not share your information with Kickstarter. If you back the campaign there, Kickstarter's own privacy policy applies to what you give them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, for example in a payment dispute.
International transfers
Our hosting and email providers store and process information in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK and EU data protection law: the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, or contractual clauses approved for this purpose (the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum).
How long we keep it
- If you unsubscribe, we erase your email address and everything linked to it within 30 days. If you hold a paid VIP reservation, we keep it until the Kickstarter campaign ends, so we can send you your VIP link at launch, and erase it within 30 days after that.
- Otherwise, we keep the mailing list until 12 months after the Kickstarter campaign ends, then delete it.
- Payment records for VIP deposits are kept, by Stripe and in our accounts, for as long as UK tax law requires, usually six years.
- Backups of our database are kept for up to six weeks, so deleted information disappears from them within that time.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (and EU law, if you are in the EU) you have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; unsubscribing does this for our emails. To exercise any of these rights, email hex@misoboard.io. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first, so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or, in the EU, to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Our mailing list and VIP reservations are not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and its date. If a change is significant, we will also tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
